Horticulture is the science and industry of cultivation of plants. Almost all varieties of fruits and vegetables are cultivated in Europe. Cranberry originated from Northern Europe while redcurrant belongs to western continental Europe. Fruits like gage and Mirabelle plum are grown in France. Broccoli and Savoy cabbage originated in Italy. However, the horticulture activities get limited in Northern Europe due to temperate climate. Besides the home grown production of Europe which is mainly seasonal, many of the products are imported from all over the world.

The Euro
The Euro is the single currency of the European Union. Each nation in the union has made strides to incorporate the Euro as its sole currency. The advantages of the Euro include easy travel between countries as travelers no longer have to change money as they visit different European countries. There are also big benefits economically having only one currency. Companies doing business all over Europe no longer have to fight over currency exchange rates and banks can borrow and loan money in a single currency. A solid Euro also helps the EU become more stable globally.

Peace
By bringing all of Europe together under one umbrella the EU has also brought peace to all European countries. As more nations join the European Union and head of states work closely together it has helped to iron out major differences between those nations. The European Union can now focus more on international peace rather than inter-Europe squabbles. With an increasing threat in international terrorism an unified Europe is much better equipped to deal with the situation rather than each nation fighting on its own.

Student Exchange
One of the great things the European Union has done with the educational system in Europe is opening the doors for student exchange programs. Young people all over Europe get to experience new cultures and educational opportunities. The latest reports show that over 1.2 million students are currently studying in foreign schools using the ERASMUS Programme. That means university graduates are more cultured, speak more languages and generally more prepared in dealing with foreign business practices. These are all win-win situations for students and the economy.

European Economy
The largest factor in the European Union has been the single market economy that essentially means that citizens and companies of the EU can freely move themselves and their goods around the participating countries. This has opened up the doors for many individuals looking for a change in locale or to explore better career opportunities in neighboring countries. For companies this means that they can focus on what they are best at and increasing their market from a single country to a whole continent. Many businesses have prospered due to this.

Causes for Equality
The European Union is also making great strides in making everyone of any sex, color, race or creed to be treated equally and fairly too. In the year 2000 new directives made it so that discrimination, harassment and victimization in employment and training on the grounds of religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation was outlawed and same with ethnic background or race. In 2006 a new Roadmap for equality between women and men 2006-2010 was started which is trying to make men and women equal in the workplace and private life. The EU is certainly setting trends for the masses in making Europe an equal place for one and all.
